STATEMENT
The Committee of ‘the 1903’ Dundalk FC Supporters Club met on Tuesday 12 October 2021.
One of the items to be considered was the failure of the Board of Dundalk FC to acknowledge or respond to a formal written request to meet and discuss serious issues at the club (meeting request is copied with this statement).
The Committee want to publicly state and record our disgust at the disrespect shown to the supporters club, the fans and the town in these regards. This approach and attitude only elevates the alarm at the current state of affairs at the football club. This attitude to fans, and our town, is unprecedented in our great clubs history.
‘The 1903’ Committee roundly condemn the illogical attitude and approach taken by the Board in these regards but will remain available for engagement.’
The Committee’
Original Letter:
“Dear Dundalk FC Board,
We are taking this step of seeking a meeting between the full current Dundalk FC Board and the full Committee of the ‘1903 Dundalk FC Supporters Club’ (aims and objectives attached) to discuss the extraordinary circumstances in which we currently find our football club.
As you know our approach as a supporters club since formation has been to be positive and forward looking and to seek to improve what had become a toxic environment at the club, an environment that possibly affected on field performances for much of the current season.
We are seeking this meeting now to discuss, collaboratively:
1) the more recent statements and actions regarding the Club’s ownership and their impact
2) planning for 2022 and beyond, and
3) a player contract strategy whose main outcome seems to be to benefit our biggest rivals rather than Dundalk Football Club
We believe there is not a single Dundalk supporter who is not deeply alarmed, indeed distressed, about the current position. On our, and their, behalves we believe this meeting is essential.
In recent months, despite our positive approach to already existing difficulties, you the Board have failed to take advantage of opportunities to engage directly with the supporters who are the lifeblood of the club you own.
In seeking this meeting we would like to point out that in this culture and environment such a meeting is absolutely normal. There are countless examples of such co-operation in the past and there is no recorded incidence of the controllers or board of our Dundalk FC failing to meet with the representatives of our supporters when requested.
Furthermore, we suggest that to agree to our request now not alone follows that historic precedent, but is also a chance for the Board to again reach out and show good faith with the people who care most about this club, and the town of Dundalk.
In these regards we seek, and we look forward to, an early agreement to an early meeting.
